Ollie Bearman presente en Barcelona
Una novedad en los Libres 1 del GP de España fue la participación de Oliver Bearman, quien pilotó el Haas en su segunda sesión de entrenamientos libres de las seis programadas para este año. El joven británico condujo el coche de Nico Hülkenberg.
Pirelli se endurece
En Barcelona se ha retomado la gama más dura de neumáticos. El año pasado, la estrategia predominante fue utilizar neumáticos blandos y medios, mientras que los duros no ofrecieron el rendimiento esperado en este circuito. Por ello, la mayoría de los equipos optó por utilizar un juego de neumáticos duros en esta primera sesión.

Sesión experimental
Durante los primeros 30 minutos de la sesión, Sainz, George Russell y Max Verstappen se turnaron en la primera posición. Mercedes y Red Bull estuvieron al frente, aunque McLaren y Ferrari no se quedaron muy atrás. Sin embargo, Charles Leclerc no se mostró satisfecho y se quejaba por radio.
Fernando Alonso dedicó la primera mitad de la sesión a numerosas pruebas. El objetivo era comparar el paquete de mejoras con el utilizado hace dos semanas en el GP de Canadá.
Aparecen los blandos
En la segunda media hora, los equipos comenzaron a utilizar neumáticos blandos para realizar simulaciones de clasificación. Lando Norris registró un tiempo de 1’14″228, apenas 24 milésimas más rápido que Verstappen. Mercedes optó por una estrategia distinta, utilizando neumáticos medios, posiblemente para reservar los blandos para más adelante o para los Libres 2.
A 21 minutos del final, una bandera roja interrumpió la sesión debido a un trozo de alerón delantero del coche de Alonso en la pista. Esto no afectó significativamente el plan de trabajo de Alonso, aunque todos los coches tuvieron que regresar a boxes durante cuatro minutos.

En la parte final de la sesión, Alonso utilizó neumáticos blandos y avanzó hasta la novena posición, con margen de mejora, quedando a un segundo del tiempo de Norris. Fue una sesión de mucho aprendizaje para Aston Martin, enfocada en comprender las nuevas actualizaciones introducidas para este fin de semana.
Tandas largas en la primera sesión
En los últimos diez minutos, la mayoría de los equipos realizó tandas largas para recopilar datos de cara al domingo. Mercedes y Ferrari trabajaron con neumáticos medios, mientras que Red Bull regresó a los duros tras las simulaciones de clasificación con blandos.
Norris terminó con el mejor tiempo, liderando los primeros entrenamientos del fin de semana, seguido muy de cerca por Verstappen y Sainz. El madrileño fue el más rápido con neumáticos medios, a tres décimas del mejor tiempo, seguido por Russell en cuarta posición, también muy cerca de Sainz. Sergio Pérez fue quinto, Oscar Piastri sexto, Lewis Hamilton séptimo y Esteban Ocon octavo. Alonso finalizó noveno y Alexander Albon completó el ‘Top 10’.
