El recuerdo de aquella gesta increíble realizada por un grupo de jugadores que no solo creyeron hasta el final, si no que también corrieron y se dejaron la vida por el escudo, y la grandeza de esta camiseta.
Miércoles, nueve de la noche, Bernabéu y partido de vuelta en la Champions. No hay mejores ingredientes que estos para lo paranormal. Para que suceda aquello que parece imposible y sobre todo, para conseguir romper con todos los esquemas y análisis previos en un ambiente donde tan solo la locura está invitada. En este escenario no hay predicción que valga, la lógica pasa a un segundo plano y tan solo Dios, que como dice el bueno de Juanma Rodríguez, “es madridista”, puede determinar aquello que parece que no va a volver a suceder otra vez, pero lo acaba haciendo. ¿La explicación? Nadie la sabe, y me temo que nadie nunca lo sabrá.
Mañana el Madrid está ante otra oportunidad de continuar la historia. Volver a demostrar que no es cuestión de suerte, sino de algo más superior. Un maleficio para los rivales y un escenario de ensueño para los madridistas. El miércoles, 15 de abril de 2025, tiene que volver a ser otro ejemplo de que los milagros existen y van siempre vestidos de blanco. De que en las noches de Champions el Bernabéu no es un estadio de fútbol, sino una coliseo romano en la que los abonados y aficionados madridistas asisten a este espectáculo para ver a un equipo aplastar a otro. Haciéndolo al ritmo de los gritos de guerra y el pulgar de Don Florentino Pérez que va tornándose hacia abajo para dictar la sentencia de un rival, que acaba muerto sobre la delicada lona del terreno de juego vikingo.
El Arsenal es consciente de que mañana va al infierno. De que llega con tres goles de ventaja al feudo blanco, pero no sabe con cuántos en contra va a volver a Londres. No son suposiciones, son realidades, ejemplos, antecedentes. Arteta ha visto cómo muchos de sus compañeros de profesión en Inglaterra han caído vencidos ante la épica madridista. Sobre todo aquel año 2022 que vamos a recordar, y al que más se tiene que agarrar el Madrid de la actualidad para realizar mañana la épica remontada que necesita para pasar a semifinales de la Champions League.
Real Madrid – PSG: Benzema de mi vida
Los octavos de final de aquella Champions en el 2022 juntaba curiosamente a dos de los equipos con mayor rivalidad en ese momento. El Paris Saint-Germain llegaba como uno de los proyectos más ambiciosos de todo el mundo, con una delantera de escándalo donde se juntaba el talento, con la explosividad y la virtud, o lo que es lo mismo, Neymar, Mbappé y Lionel Andrés Messi Cuccittini. Veníamos de momentos muy tensos con el tema Mbappé y los cuchillos se lanzaban en todas direcciones en la capital española.
El partido de ida fue una auténtica pesadilla para el Real Madrid. El conjunto parisino pasó por encima de ellos en todos las facetas posbibles. A pesar de esto, el PSG llegó a la vuelta en el Bernabéu con tan solo un gol de ventaja. La resistencia blanca, con un Courtois de escándalo, fue lo suficientemente buena como para llevar la eliminatoria a su casa con una desventaja mínima.
En el partido de vuelta el ambiente en los aledaños, desde bien temprano, era especial. Se respiraba confianza y los aficionados del Madrid estaban más que convencidos de que se iba a poder dar la vuelta a la eliminatoria. El recibimiento a los jugadores fue espectacular y la hostilidad contra los del PSG, y Mbappé en especial, abría las puertas del inframundo a unos jugadores que todavía no sabían en qué tipo de manicomio se iban a meter a jugar.
El partido desde el inicio fue una guerra. Los jugadores del Madrid apretaban a su rival, pero el PSG sabía que en los espacios que estaba dejando el Madrid atrás podía terminar de matar la eliminatoria. La primera parte se convirtió en un combate de boxeo, donde ambos equipos se atacaban y daban golpes para intentar conectar uno, fuerte y limpio, que pudiese desconcertar al rival por completo. El PSG consiguió conectar uno que dejó prácticamente sobre la lona al Real Madrid, con un golazo de Mbappé que dificultaba la eliminatoria para el Madrid. Los blancos tenían que marcar dos goles en la segunda mitad para al menos forzar la prórroga.
Quién sabe lo que se habló en el vestuario local al descanso, pero lo que sí se pudo ver, fue un cambio de actitud total en el Madrid, que cambió las tornas del partido y de la eliminatoria en cuestión de unos pocos minutos. Tras el pequeño susto que se llevó el equipo español con el gol anulado a Mbappé, Ancelotti realizaría unos cambios claves no solo en el partido, ni la eliminatoria, sino que en todo el recorrido de esta épica Champions sin precedentes que se estaba viviendo en aquel momento. Rodrygo y Camavinga saltaban al campo como dos chavales jóvenes con poco experiencia, pero con un futuro prometedor y con unas ganas de demostrar que valían para el Madrid, a través de una gran actuación en la competición merengue por excelencia. Yo solo aviso, quedaros con estos nombres y estos cambios.
La entrada de ambos dinamitó el partido. Un encuentro que parecía tranquilo para el PSG, en cuestión de dos coletazos blancos pasó del control parisino a la locura desatada en el Teatro de los Horrores. Nadie sabe lo que les pasa a los rivales del Madrid cuando sienten la amenaza, pero el miedo que recorre sus cuerpos se les puede ver en la cara y el nerviosismo que expresan a la hora de jugar al fútbol. La pelota no solo les quema, les atemoriza y así lo demostró Donnarumma en este partido. Una situación normal, donde el portero italiano se hacía con el balón en los pies bastante solo, se acabó convirtiendo en una pérdida tontísima de balón, que iba a ser aprovechada por el Madrid para marcar el primero del encuentro. Benzema, el mismo que había ido a presionar a Donnarumma, acababa la jugada de gol tras un buen pase atrás de Vini. Dos jugadores que parecían derrotados sintieron el calor de su gente. y la fe en una posible remontada les llevó a hilar una jugada en la que pocos locos creerían.
Cuando llega el primero en el Bernabéu ya no suenan tambores de guerra, sino que el espectáculo ha empezado y los momentos de locura se desatan por doquier en el partido. El PSG, con un gol de ventaja aún, se vino abajo como un castillo de naipes al ver que 11 jugadores de campo eran llevados a hombros por un estadio de 85.000 personas, que en esos momentos se sienten como 200.000. Y tras un dominio aplastante del Madrid llegaba el segundo gol, que igualaba la eliminatoria. Modric, perro viejo en estos escenarios, filtraba un balón de locura sobre Benzema, que no fallaba y marcaba el gol para poner el 2-2 en la eliminatoria. En cuestión de 15 minutos el Madrid lo había hecho. Había conseguido empatar una eliminatoria en la que estuvo por detrás, en juego y sensaciones, los 150 minutos restantes. Lo que al PSG le había costado muchísimas lágrimas de sudor, el Madrid lo hizo en apenas un par de jugadas mágicas en su estadio.
Aunque esa locura blanca no había terminado. Aún quedaba la peor situación posible para el equipo parisino. Un equipo que estaba desorientado, que no sabía cómo encontrarse, como volver a ese dominio que había impuesto en el resto de los minutos.
Antes de que pudieran volver a intentar redirigir el barco, el Madrid presionaba el saque de centro y conseguía robar en una posición adelantada. Rodrygo conectaba con Vinicius en ataque, que intentaba regatear a Marquinhos para poder tirar a portería, pero el central brasileño tocaba lo justo como para impedir esta situación. Lo que nadie sabía en el PSG es que desde segunda línea llegaría el hombre bandera del equipo, el capitán, el jugador que mejor entendía sobre el campo que es el Real Madrid y que supone jugar estas noches con esta camiseta, y con una definición perfecta, e inalcanzable para Donnarumma conseguía cerrar una remontada para la historia. Benzema se vistió de héroe aquella noche y a través de su hat-trick consiguió eliminar a un PSG lleno de estrellas, pero falto de experiencia, historia y grandes noches como esta.
“90 minuti en el Bernabéu son molto longo”. Y así lo comprobó el PSG aquella noche de octavos de final. El equipo que se iba muy arriba y confiado al túnel de vestuarios en el medio tiempo, llegaba totalmente escaldado al final del encuentro. Sabiendo que había sido eliminado por un Madrid legendario. Por que la grandeza no se puede comprar con dinero.
Real Madrid – Chelsea: Dos veces no es casualidad
Una vez pasado a los cuartos de final, el Real Madrid se enfrentaría al Chelsea en un camino que se iba a teñir totalmente de inglés hasta en la final. El equipo de Ancelotti, por sorteo, volvía a tener el partido de vuelta en su casa. Aunque el Chelsea era el vigente campeón del torneo y no se lo iba a dejar nada fácil para pasar.
El partido de ida en Stamford Bridge fue sorprendentemente cómodo para el Madrid. El conjunto de Chamartín tiñó de blanco la capital londinense y les endosó un 1-3, más que contundente, en su casa. De nuevo, Benzema lideró al equipo con otro hat-trick tremendo.
El Real Madrid llegaba al partido de vuelta con una eliminatoria totalmente distinta a la de los octavos de final. Contaba con dos goles de ventaja y la defensa del resultado en su campo. Aún así, el Santiago Bernabéu se volvió a vestir de gala. Los aficionados también respondieron tanto fuera, como dentro del campo, pero el equipo no salió enchufado al partido. Se pudo ver a un Madrid relajado y demasiado tranquilo por el resultado de la ida. Algo que no le vino nada bien al equipo. En los primeros 15 minutos de partido el Chelsea ya había conseguido recortar diferencias con un Mason Mount, que hizo creer al lado blue del estadio. El campo se volcó hacia el lado del Madrid y gracias a una gran actuación de Courtois, el conjunto de Ancelotti consiguió llegar al descanso todavía por delante. Tras el descanso, el guión de partido no cambiaba nada. El Chelsea seguía apretando arriba a un Madrid, que no estaba metido en el encuentro. Tanto va el cántaro a la fuente que al final se rompe y primero Rudiger, en el 51, y luego Werner, en el 75, conseguían poner por delante al conjunto de Tuchel en la eliminatoria. A falta de 15 minutos más descuento para el final, el Madrid estaba fuera de la Champions.
Pero es en estas situaciones cuando el Madrid se pone serio, se viste de gala y muestra la mejor de sus versiones para darle la vuelta a un escenario que parece imposible. La mítica del “sujétame el cubata que voy”. El Madrid cogió al toro por los cuernos y en tan solo 5 minutos consiguió volver a empatar la eliminatoria. Los mismos protagonistas de la anterior remontada volvieron a resurgir como salvavidas para el Madrid. Rodrygo, que salió como revulsivo, consiguió rematar a gol un balón increíble centrado por Modric. Poniendo así, el 4-4 global y llevando el partido a la prórroga.
El Chelsea estaba muy cansado tras el esfuerzo realizado en los 90 minutos reglamentarios y el Madrid llegaba mejor física, y anímicamente. El Real Madrid y las prórrogas siempre han sido dos factores de un entendimiento total. Y en este caso, no iba a ser menos.
A pesar de tener una defensa circunstancias, el Madrid supo manejar mucho mejor los tiempos de la prórroga, y tras una buena jugada de Vinicius, Benzema volvía a marcar el gol que desataba la locura en el Bernabéu. Nadie se lo podía creer en las gradas, ni en el campo. El Madrid lo había vuelto a hacer ante un Chelsea, que llegaba totalmente noqueado a estos momentos de partido tras el trauma de lo vivido anteriormente.
Una vez más, el Madrid volvía a sacar adelante un encuentro que parecía muerto, con todos los escenarios en su contra y dejando en evidencia a las estadísticas, y las probabilidades. Benzema mostró el camino de la esperanza para los madridistas y Florentino Pérez, desde el palco, veía como un nuevo rival era derrotado por sus pupilos de la manera más cruel posible. El pitido final fue música para los oídos madridistas y en el campo los jugadores celebraban otra gran noche vivida en el Templo. Por que cómo dijo Rodrygo después en la sala de prensa, el Madrid hizo lo que hacia siempre, sin rendirse en ningún momento y peleando hasta el final. Esto es el Real Madrid y estas son las noches de Champions en el Bernabéu.
Real Madrid – Manchester City: El Bernabéu, territorio de los milagros
Tras unos octavos y cuartos de final de infarto, llegaba la última prueba de fuego para el Madrid si quería estar presente en la final de París. Las semifinales nos permitían disfrutar del clásico europeo de la actualidad entre Real Madrid y Manchester City. Un nuevo Guardiola contra el Madrid y el enfrentamiento entre los dos mejores clubes de aquel momento.
El Manchester City venía de eliminar al vecino del Madrid, el Atleti, y quería hacer lo mismo con el club blanco. De nuevo, el destino había decidido que la ida se jugase en Inglaterra y la vuelta en el Santiago Bernabéu. Aunque enfrentarse de tu a tu a este Manchester City eran palabras mayores con respecto a lo que ya había pasado el Madrid.
El partido de ida en el Etihad Stadium fue una oda al buen fútbol y al mayor espectáculo de este deporte a nivel de clubes, como es la Champions League. En un partido abierto, entre dos equipazos y con jugadores de primer nivel en ambas plantillas, pudimos ver un resultado final de bastantes goles y emoción. Un partido que acabó con victoria local por 4-3 .
Ante este panorama, la vuelta en el Bernabéu se posicionaba como clave para los sueños y aspiraciones madridistas de llegar a la final. Si el estadio del Real Madrid ya había sido una olla a presión en ocasiones anteriores, lo que se iba a vivir allí aquel 4 de mayo de 2022, iba a quedar para la historia de este deporte. Los llamamientos a la afición blanca desde las redes sociales, noticias y ruedas de prensa previas calentaban el ambiente, y de que manera. El Madrid estaba a un paso de una nueva final de Champions y por el camino el equipo de Ancelotti necesitaba vivir una nueva noche mágica en el Bernabéu para poder remontar la eliminatoria ante el City.
Horas antes del comienzo del partido los gritos de la afición blanca retumbaban por todas las calles de Madrid. El alma del Bernabéu se iluminaba con el paso de los aficionados por sus aledaños y los cánticos de esperanza que se escuchaban antes del comienzo del espectáculo. El recibimiento al autobus local fue una autentica locura. Tras los calentamientos y todos los actos previos al inicio de partido, el colegiado hacía sonar su silbato para el comienzo de una batalla más en el Coliseo blanco. El Madrid tenía una nueva cita con el destino, que iba a ser muy caprichoso de nuevo, pero que también traería acontecimientos inexplicables junto a él. El guión de partido fue el esperado, con un Madrid que salía a morder desde el inicio ante un City que si lograba saltar esa primera línea de presión podía hacer mucho daño con sus jugadores ofensivos. Courtois, volvió a hacer un partido para el recuerdo, parando varias ocasiones claras de los jugadores del City. El belga estaba firmando una actuación individual histórica como portero en la Champions y ese día tampoco iba a faltar con su deber. El Madrid también amenazaba con sus hombres más peligrosos como Benzema o Vinicius, que venían de liarla en Manchester la semana anterior. A pesar de las numerosas ocasiones que vimos en el primer tiempo, ambos equipos se fueron a vestuarios con un empate a 0, que dejaba más satisfechos a los de Guardiola ya que con ese resultado estaban en la final.
El segundo tiempo siguió con una línea bastante continuista de lo que se estaba viendo en el partido. Aunque la igualdad se rompió con el golazo de Mahrez en el minuto 75. Un gol que le daba media eliminatoria al City y que dejaba al Madrid eliminado a las puertas de la final. Pero ese gol se sintió muy diferente a otros que había recibido anteriormente el Madrid en el Bernabéu. Fue un incentivo más para el equipo. Como una luz de esperanza sobre la oscuridad y los aficionados madridistas, lejos de dejarse caer derrotados, empezaron a animar más que nunca a sus jugadores. Por que sí, esto es el Real Madrid. Cuanto más difícil es el reto, mayor motivación hay para conseguirlo. Asegúrate bien de rematar al Madrid cuando lo tienes en el suelo, porque como lo dejes con un mínimo atisbo de esperanza estás muerto. Una lección que los equipos rivales se tiene que tatuar de por vida y que estoy seguro que a Guardiola no se le olvidará nunca, después de lo vivido aquel día.
Ancelotti decidió mover ficha ante esta crítica situación y al cambio de Rodrygo, uno minutos antes, le sumó el de Camavinga en el centro del campo. Nadie sabe que desayunó aquel día el joven francés del Madrid, pero con apenas 19 años y una corta experiencia en el fútbol profesional, se comió él solo a todo el centro del campo del Manchester City. Ese centro del campo que estaba dominando Inglaterra y el mundo a pasos agigantados con jugadores de la talla de Kevin De Bruyne, Rodri o Bernardo Silva. A Camavinga eso le dio completamente igual y dominó el terreno de juego haciéndolo suyo, y del Madrid. Aún así, el Madrid no conseguía terminar bien las jugadas y el City se veía más favorito que nunca para pasar. De hecho, desde la realización se lanzó el famoso gráfico, que quedó para la historia posteriormente, donde le daban un 99% de probabilidades de pasar al equipo ingles, y un triste 1% al Madrid. Además, el City estuvo cerca en varias ocasiones de rematar el partido, pero tanto Courtois, como Dios, hicieron posible que esto no sucediese.
Con la llegada del minuto 90 y el descuento, el Madrid enfureció. Sacó la garra que llevaba buscando durante todo el partido y Rodrygo, tras un gran pase atrás de Benzema, conseguía recortar distancias. Sí, el Madrid se metía de lleno en el partido y entre los jugadores del City ya se temían lo peor. Mientras que los futbolistas del Madrid iban a por el balón, celebraban, animaban al estadio y creían en la remontada, los del City se veían totalmente derrotados, incluso antes de estarlo. Aún contaban con un gol de ventaja en el marcador, pero ninguno de ellos estaban convencidos de que pudieran mantenerlo entre la tormenta blanca. Con el City medio KO y el Bernabéu pidiendo sangre, los jugadores del Madrid apretaron arriba como auténticos miuras. Los 6 minutos de añadido se hicieron eternos para los «sky blues» y con el encuentro en medio de la locura, Carvajal ponía un balón perfecto sobre la cabeza de Rodrygo, que remataba con el alma para batir a Ederson. El estallido del estadio se escuchó en todas las partes del mundo y todos los jugadores del Madrid celebraban con jolgorio lo que estaba siendo otra noche mágica en el Manicomio del Santiago Bernabéu. Hay muchas palabras para describir lo que sucedió en aquel momento, pero muy pocas para recrearlo con exactitud. Las caras de los jugadores del City eran de abatimiento. De aquel que sabe que va a caer derrotado por mucho que haga. Por qué cuando el Madrid pulsa el botón de los horrores nadie se puede escapar sin vida de Chamartín.
El Real Madrid estuvo apunto de remontar la eliminatoria antes del final del partido, pero con la igualdad en el marcador el colegiado indicaba el camino hacia la prórroga. Sí, lo habían hecho de nuevo. Era imposible de explicar, pero ahí estaban, vivos sobre el terreno de juego. Antes del minuto 90 estaban a dos goles de empatar la eliminatoria y en cuestión de 2 minutos ya lo habían hecho posible. Como dijo Carlos Martínez en la narración del segundo gol de Rodrygo, «el Bernabéu es el territorio de los milagros, el territorio de lo que no está escrito». Por qué cuando el que viste de blanco cree en algo, por muy difícil que parezca lo consigue. En el feudo blanco no hay lugar para las probabilidades, para los peros, para las estadísticas. Tan solo hay lugar para los creyentes, para aquellos que sienten de verdad los colores del Madrid y los que juegan a muerte por el escudo. No hay nada más grande que el Madrid en una noche de Champions, que el aura de remontada en el Bernabéu y que un equipo que cree, cree y vuelve a creer hasta el final del partido. Parece un tópico. Realmente lo es, pero nunca puedes dar por muerto al Real Madrid hasta que se acaba el partido, y una vez más, ante el City lo volvieron a demostrar.
Lo difícil ya estaba hecho. El Madrid había conseguido obrar el milagro y en la prórroga solo necesitaban que la lógica, y el peso del estadio, cayese del lado madridista. Y así fue. Benzema de penalti puso por delante al Madrid tras más de 180 minutos de eliminatoria por detrás en el marcador. El súper-Manchester City no solo estaba perdiendo, sino que estaba siendo vapuleado. Estaban literalmente fuera del partido. Por ello, no hubo ningún tipo de reacción visitante y el Madrid consiguió llegar a una nueva final de la Champions.
Una final en la que los milagros volvieron a aparecer. No en forma de remontada, pero si en forma de un portero belga de 2 metros, que mantuvo al equipo en el partido en todo momento. Fue un muro infranqueable y la cara visible de la resistencia blanca. Realizó una de las mejores actuaciones de la historia de un portero en una final de la Champions. Dándole, junto al solitario gol de Vini, la tan deseada Champions al Madrid y sus aficionados. Pocos sucesos más improbables se han visto en la historia de esta competición y por eso ya ha quedado para los anales esta Champions del Madrid de las remontadas en el 2022.
