Tras la controvertida acción en el partido contra el Hellas Verona, el club de Apulia no ha tenido más remedio que rescindir el contrato a Roberto D’Aversa.
El partido jugado en el Estadio Via del Mare se antojaba como una esperanza para el conjunto giallorossi ya que una victoria les permitiría tener más ventaja en cuanto a la pelea por no descender a la Serie B. Pero con el comienzo del partido el conjunto local se pondría en una situación comprometida ya que el Hellas Verona se adelantaría en el minuto 17 con un tanto de Michael Ijemuan Folorunsho, llegando al descanso con una derrota de 1 a 0 a favor del conjunto de Verona.
Pero lo tenso vendría después cuando Thomas Henry y Marin Pongracic tendrían un cruce de palabras al finalizar el encuentro, llegando a intervenir el técnico Roberto D’Aversa al propinarle un cabezazo a Thomas Henry aumentando más la tensión que había con la disputa de los dos jugadores. El partido acabaría a favor de los veroneses con el 1 a o que se fueron al descanso pero lo que más importancia se le daría es sobre las consecuencias que sufriría el técnico nacido en Stuttgart ya que con la finalización del partido y del escándalo, se disculparía con la acción realizada recalcando que no es acorde de su persona y que se acabó dejando llevar por las emociones del momento.
En cuanto a la reacción del Lecce no se hizo esperar ya que condenaría el suceso realizado por Roberto D’Aversa señalando el club que no estaba dentro de los valores que encarna los giallorossi, teniendo la resolución el día después del encuentro con el cese de funciones del director técnico por parte de la directiva dejando al club en una situación comprometida ya que además de la búsqueda de un nuevo entrenador que se haga cargo del banquillo del Lecce, tienen que lidiar con la lucha por el descenso ya que el club está situado en 16ª posición con 25 unidades estando a un solo punto de acabar en la Serie B.
