A falta de 4′ del final, Guéhi ponía el empate para llevar el partido a los once metros. Un Arsenal imponente no tuvo la eficacia suficiente para resolver el encuentro en los 90 minutos donde un Lacroix fue el señalado en la derrota. Próximo rival, el Chelsea.

Arsenal y Crystal Palace se medían hoy las caras por un pase a la semifinal de la Carabao Cup. La fortaleza londinense sería testigo de un encuentro de lo más apasionado y con bajas importantes en ambos bandos.

Por un lado, los Gunners presentaban en su once una notable rotación a pesar de no contar aún con su líder en la zaga, Magalhães y sus compañeros en la misma posición: Mosquera y Ben White.

Por otro, las Águilas salían con su mejor alineación pese a las ausencias de: Kamada, Sarr y Daniel Muñoz.

Tan solo 3′ después, otra vez Walter Benítez atajaba de manera providencial un gran disparo de cabeza a ras del césped ocasionado por Gabriel Jesús.

Junto a él, un indomable Martinelli era un puñal muy peligroso que constantemente superaba a Canvot, estas acciones le permitían lanzar centros en los que los Gunners eran superiores.

En el conjunto rival, Richards era otro elemento fundamental defensivamente. Sus actuaciones sólidas y toma de decisiones correctas evitaban el primer gol del Arsenal.

Esta primera parte era un asedio para los visitantes, especialmente en las múltiples ocasiones aéreas que generaban. Pues el Palace no conseguía sostener el balón y cada vez defendía más dentro de su campo. Su primera parte acababa con 0 remates a portería.

Segunda parte

En esta segunda parte, las Águilas ejecutaban 2 cambios. El veterano Clyne ingresaba a los terrenos de juego por un  joven Canvot, tras realizar una actuación negativa. También el ex-gunner Nketiah abandonaba el campo por el joven Devenny.

En estos primeros minutos la dinámica del encuentro cambió. Esta vez los visitantes conseguían llegar a campo rival. Poco a poco ganaban las posiciones determinantes para poner a prueba e un Kepa que en la primera parte no había intervenido.

Ya en el ecuador de esta segunda parte, Arteta impulsaba un partido estancado gracias a las incorporaciones de Saka y Ødegaard. Y ambas presencias eran efectivas. El noruego colgaba balones quirúrgicos para que su ‘9’ continuara ocasionando peligro.

Escasos minutos después, las cosas no parecían ir a favor de los visitantes, en el 70′, su mejor defensa Richards, se marchaba lesionado tras una mala caída.

En el 80′, llegaba el primer gol del encuentro. Tras un córner intensamente disputado en el área de Benítez, el propio Lacroix se marcaba en propia puerta.

A pesar de los cambios, Benítez seguía sosteniendo a unas Águilas que mantenían la inferioridad sin rumbo. Pero el rumbo del encuentro iba a cambiar por completo a 4′ del final.

Un poderoso Guéhi ponía el empate en el 94′ gracias a una asistencia vital de cabeza de su compañero Lerma. Dicho gol llevaba el encuentro a los penaltis.
