Finalmente en agosto de 2015 se marchó al West Bromwich Albion por 8’3 millones de euros, su marcha no fue escandalosa pero sí se percibía el presentimiento de que no había terminado de explotar como jugador. En los Baggies pudo recuperar sus dotes defensivos pero sin actuaciones desorbitadas, jugó con regularidad y asumió liderazgo pues fue nombrado capitán por su símbolo de estabilidad que aportaba al equipo en un Albion que rondaba constantemente el descenso.
Su periodo como blanquiazul culminó tras tres temporadas pues los Foxes se hacían con sus servicios en la 2018/2019 por 4 millones de euros. Fue aquí donde tuvo un crecimiento notable, un resurgir.
