Alonso: «Todos queríamos trabajar con él»

Fernando Alonso ha expresado su opinión sobre la llegada del afamado ingeniero Adrian Newey a Aston Martin y su impacto en el equipo.

Aunque la llegada del gurú de la aerodinámica a la escudería se anunció este martes, el piloto español descarta que Newey pueda influir significativamente en el coche del 2025, el AMR25. Según Alonso, será el coche de 2026 el primero en el que Newey tendrá una participación clave, coincidiendo con el cambio reglamentario en la Fórmula 1.

“No lo creo. Me gustaría decir que sí, pero no lo creo. En marzo de 2025, el foco ya estará puesto en 2026, con el cambio de normativa».

Comentó Alonso en la rueda de prensa previa al Gran Premio de Azerbaiyán. El asturiano, consciente del tiempo que le llevará a Newey adaptarse al equipo, considera que el próximo monoplaza de Aston Martin no requerirá demasiada inversión de recursos a menos que el equipo se vea envuelto en la lucha por el campeonato.

El futuro de Aston Martin

Alonso destacó la importancia de las nuevas instalaciones de Aston Martin, como el túnel de viento que estará operativo en enero. Según él, esto supondrá un «gran salto hacia adelante» para la escudería, que hasta ahora había utilizado las instalaciones de Mercedes con limitaciones de tiempo.

El 2 de marzo de 2025 será la fecha clave en la que Alonso y Newey comenzarán a trabajar juntos. Esta colaboración nunca antes vista en la Fórmula 1 ha despertado mucha ilusión tanto dentro del equipo como entre los aficionados. Alonso reveló que envió un mensaje al ingeniero británico para persuadirlo de unirse a Aston Martin, y destacó que una conversación en el Gran Premio histórico de Mónaco en mayo fue decisiva para Newey.

“Todos queríamos trabajar con él. Creo que la visión de Lawrence (Stroll), la nueva fábrica, y la asociación con Honda fueron factores clave para que Adrian se uniera al equipo”.

Esperanzas para este Gran Premio

De cara al Gran Premio de Azerbaiyán de este fin de semana, Alonso confía en que el circuito de Bakú sea favorable para Aston Martin. Aunque el equipo está inmerso en la intensa lucha de la zona media de la parrilla, el español espera que puedan repetir el buen rendimiento mostrado en Bélgica y lograr puntos importantes.

“Cada carrera es diferente, y en la zona media todo está tan ajustado que una o dos décimas pueden marcar la diferencia. Espero que Bakú sea un fin de semana positivo para nosotros”.

La llegada de Adrian Newey a Aston Martin parece ser el primer paso hacia un ambicioso futuro para el equipo británico, con la mira puesta en 2026 como el año clave para sus aspiraciones de luchar por lo más alto.
