Un dominio inquebrantable
Toyota lideró gran parte de la carrera, y a pesar de un problema técnico en el coche hermano #7, compuesto por Mike Conway, Nyck de Vries y Kamui Kobayashi, el equipo logró una actuación destacada. El #7 fue el más rápido de los dos GR010, liderando la primera parte de la carrera.
Sin embargo, un problema con un sensor de presión de combustible durante el cambio de Conway a de Vries costó al equipo tres minutos valiosos. A pesar de este contratiempo, Kobayashi llevó el coche al cuarto lugar en la última hora, adelantando al Ferrari 499P LMH de Alessandro Pier Guidi poco antes del final.

La estrategia de neumáticos fue crucial en la carrera. Toyota optó por los compuestos medios Michelin, los cuales funcionaron eficazmente en la abrasiva superficie de Interlagos.

En la clase LMGT3, Porsche celebró su cuarta victoria en cinco carreras. El Manthey PureRxing Porsche 911 GT3-R, compartido por Klaus Bachler, Joel Sturm y Alex Malykhin, dominó la carrera, superando al Aston Martin Vantage GT3 de Heart of Racing.
Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2 de Iron Dames tuvo un comienzo prometedor, pero problemas de refrigeración lo dejaron fuera de la competencia.
