Finlandia 85-96 Bahamas: El talento NBA decidió el partido

El pistoletazo de salida de este torneo de clasificación a los Juegos Olímpicos de París en Valencia lo darían las selecciones de Finlandia y Bahamas. Los finlandeses, dirigidos por Lassi Tuovi, exasistente de Utah Jazz y la Virtus Bologna (entre otros), cuentan con la baja de su máxima estrella, Lauri Markkanen; aunque cuentan también con grandes jugadores de la talla de Sasu Salin, Elias Valtonen y Miro Little. Los bahameños, en cuanto a nombres, tienen varios. Jugadores importantes en la NBA como pueden ser Buddy Hield, Eric Gordon e incluso Deandre Ayton. Partidazo para comenzar este Torneo Preolímpico. 

 

Primer cuarto: 26 – 27

Los bahameños empezaron con el siguiente quinteto inicial: Deandre Ayton, Travis Munnings, Buddy Hield, Eric Gordon y Lourawls Nairn. Los de Lassi Tuovi partirían con Nkamhoua, Valtonen, Grandison, Maxhuni y Jantunen. El primer balón era para los caribeños, que en cuestión de 30 segundos ya habían cometido 2 faltas personales. Segundo cuarto: 54 – 47

Finlandia empezaba fuerte, Madsen anotaba para que los noreuropeos se adelantaran por primera vez en todo el partido, aunque poco les duraría la alegría, Edgecombe desde la línea de 3 puntos, seguido de un mate de Ayton, ponían el +4 para los de Nassau, obligando a Tuovi a pedir el tiempo muerto. Se acercaba el ecuador del segundo cuarto y la máxima igualdad seguía, 36-36.

 

Jantunen, siguiendo su dinámica, se seguía echando a su selección a la espalda. Triple impresionante del jugador de Paris Basketball para poner la máxima diferencia de los lobos de Finlandia, 43-38. Crecía la confianza de los fineses, alentados por su gente desde la previa, Bahamas, desesperada, se vio obligada a volver a meter a sus jugadores clave (Hield, Gordon y Ayton), quienes no pudieron revertir la situación. 54-47 al final de este cuarto.

Tercer cuarto: 67 – 73

Finlandia no iba a poner el freno de mano, Jantunen anotaba su punto número 15, con un triple, contestado por otro de la mano de Buddy Hield. 60-52 en la Fonteta. Se empezaba a quedar atrás Bahamas, 64-52 después de 3 minutos. En un abrir y cerrar de ojos, los caribeños estaban a tan solo 4 puntos, tras dos triples seguidos de Buddy Hield y un 2+1 generado por Nairn Jr (que hizo un airball en ese tiro libre que tuvo). Hield estaba desatado, el jugador de los Sixers se colocaba como máximo anotador del partido con 17 puntos, tras colocar el marcador de 65-64.

 

Se volvía a poner por delante Bahamas a 3 minutos del final, 65-68. Suficiente para que Lassi Tuovi pidiera tiempo muerto. Pérdida nada más terminar el tiempo muerto, en la que los bahameños pondrían un colchón de 6 puntos entre ambos países. 67-73 terminaba el tercer cuarto con una sensación de dominio de Bahamas inconmensurable.

Cuarto cuarto: 85 – 96

V.J. Edgecombe levantaba al público de la Fonteta con un mate espectacular, 70-79 para Bahamas, Tuovi vuelve a pedir tiempo muerto, sus jugadores estaban superados, a pesar de llegar a ir 12 puntos por encima. 5 minutos tenía Finlandia para remontar el 74-84 al que se enfrentaban.

 

Parecía que el sueño finlandés acababa, Jantunen, máximo anotador del equipo con 20 puntos, era eliminado por 5 faltas personales a 2:43 del final con un marcador desfavorable de 79-88. Terminaba el partido 85-96, victoria para Bahamas.
