El madrileño consiguió sumar los primeros puntos de la temporada con el noveno coche de la parrilla
Carlos Sainz ha sumado los primeros puntos para el equipo Williams en el Gran Premio de China. A pesar de tener el noveno coche, el madrileño aprovechó las oportunidades para llegar a meta en novena posición.
No está siendo el inicio de temporada esperado para Sainz y para Williams. Los de Grove han tenido un invierno duro, incluso siendo los primeros en centrarse en el desarrollo del coche a principios de 2025. Un monoplaza con 28 kilos de sobrepeso hacen que se sitúen al fondo de la parrilla, tan solo por delante de un debutante Cadillac y un desastroso Aston Martin.
Vowles ya avisó de que iba a ser un inicio duro, pero tenían un plan para los siguientes meses, centrándose principalmente en bajar de peso al monoplaza. El jefe del equipo Williams ha confirmado que tiene en mente quitar hasta 12 kilos del coche próximamente, por lo que podría haber una gran mejora de los británicos conforme avance la temporada.
Sin embargo, para estas primeras carreras, poco pueden hacer tanto Carlos como Albon con un coche que no es capaz de pasar de Q1. En las dos clasificaciones del fin de semana en China, repitieron posiciones de salida, con el madrileño en la decimoséptima y el tailandés en la decimoctava.
Aunque sea en la zona baja de parrilla, el español está brillando en este inicio de temporada, batiendo a su compañero en ambas clasificaciones, y metiéndole cuatro décimas en la segunda de ellas.
En carrera, continuaron los problemas de Williams, con el abandono, antes incluso de empezar la carrera, de Alex Albon. Por otro lado, Carlos Sainz lo dejó todo para llegar hasta los puntos.
Para empezar, una gran salida del madrileño lo colocaba cerca del top 10, aunque fue cayendo por ritmo hasta la decimotercera posición. También hay que recordar, que coches con más ritmo como los McLaren o Bortoleto tampoco tomaron la salida.
En cuanto a estrategia, el `55´ salía con neumáticos medios, y realizó la parada una vuelta antes del Safety car, perdiendo tiempo en pista.
Posteriormente, se aprovechó de los errores de los rivales para ir adelantando posiciones. Un trompo de Lindblad, un accidente entre Ocon y Colapinto, una parada muy lenta de Hulkenberg y un abandono de Verstappen lo aupaban a la novena posición.
Sin embargo, todavía tenía que aguantar el neumático, del que se estaba quejando por radio. El objetivo de Williams era alargar el stint de los duros hasta las 40 vueltas, para tener opciones de puntuar, y así lo hizo. Además, aguantó los ataques de Colapinto en las últimas vueltas, que remontó, a pesar de tener el coche roto, para llegar a meta en novena posición.
Hazaña del madrileño la que logró en China, ya que, con el noveno coche, hizo todo perfecto y aprovechó la gran cantidad de errores de los rivales para sumar los primeros puntos de la temporada para Williams.
