El Rayo sale escaldado del Martínez Valero con su segundo 4-0 en contra de la temporada. El gol tempranero de Héctor Fort no pareció suponer un problema al Rayo, pero los de Sarabia pusieron tierra de por medio tras el descanso haciendo gala de su fútbol que tantas alegrías les ha dado durante esta temporada.

El encuentro tuvo un inicio fulgurante. Una llegada a área de Héctor Fort en el minuto 6 puso el 1-0 en el marcador con un golazo proveniente de un recorte fantástico del futbolista catalán. Fue una de cal y una de arena para Fort, que se lesionó el hombro por una caída al anotar el gol, obligando a Eder Sarabia a sustituirle en los primeros minutos del partido.

El Rayo reaccionó bien y pronto al gol, encadenando varias ocasiones de las que algunas fueron evitadas por Iñaki Peña y otras acabaron marchándose fuera. Sorprendió de la primera mitad lo bien que aguantaron los franjirrojos la salida de balón del Elche y fueron incisivos en ataque propiciando buenas jugadas en último tercio.

Álvaro Rodríguez y Rafa Mir tuvieron una ardua batalla con los centrales rayistas Mendy y Lejeune, aunque pudieron contenerles durante la primera mitad. Si ya era tarea difícil el aguantar los arreones del Elche, se le puso todavía más complicado al Rayo con la lesión de Balliu que, sin Ratiu disponible, obligó a Iñigo Pérez a reajustar la línea defensiva colocando al ‘Pacha’ de lateral derecho.

El primer acto concluyó dejando el partido muy abierto, con el marcador desfavorable para el Rayo pero muy igualado en términos futbolísticos. En cambio, la segunda mitad fue otro cantar.

El Elche encontró espacios entre las líneas del Rayo que no solo dieron lugar a pases filtrados sino también a conducciones muy peligrosas como la de Bigas que propició el 2-0 que puso Álvaro Rodríguezaprovechando una mala salida de Batalla. El cuadro ilicitano empezó a desordenar el bloque rayista y los de Eder Sarabia se manejan muy bien con balón cuando les dejan metros para actuar, lo que tan solo tres minutos después hizo que se pusiera el 3-0 que supondría el golpe definitivo para los de Vallecas.

Con tres de ventaja el encuentro quedó completamente roto. Iñigo realizó un triple cambio para tratar de revertir la situación pero ya era demasiado tarde como para reaccionar. El Elche manejó el balón a su antojo y continuó sometiendo al Rayo, llegando a poner el 4-0 definitivo en el 91 con un golazo de Martim Neto.

Mal partido del Rayo que no supo manejar las transiciones en ataque ni en defensa. Estuvieron sólidos durante la primera parte pero fueron totalmente incapaces de ajustar la presión durante los últimos 45 minutos en los que el Elche dio con la tecla y llegó a área con excesiva facilidad.
