Robin van Persie apostaba por un once de gala con la clara intención de firmar su primera victoria en el torneo. En la misma línea, Unai Emery mantenía su once habitual, fiel a su idea de juego, pese a las ausencias importantes de Onana y Tielemans.
Primera parte
Una afición eufórica alentaba a los neerlandeses desde el inicio del partido en una ambiente totalmente cargado.

El cuadro de Emery iba creciendo con el transcurso de los minutos pero la presión enemiga los ponía entre las cuerdas a la hora de defender.
