El Coviran Granada ficha a Micah Speight para acompañar a Jonathan Rousselle en el puesto de base y ser su nuevo director de juego
El puesto de base del Coviran Granada tiene nuevo integrante. A la renovación clave de Jonathan Rousselle, se suma el fichaje, ya de forma oficial, del estadounidense, Micah Speight, que llega libre tras finalizar contrato con el Pau-Lacq-Orthez de la Segunda División Francesa (Élite 2).
Micah Speight (Oklahoma City, 26 de junio de 1998) comenzó su carrea en la NCAA División II en las filas del Southern Nazarene Crimson Storm, con los que consiguió estar en el quinteto ideal de la temporada de su conferencia tres temporadas seguidas (2018-2020). En la temporada 2018-2019 fue elegido MVP de la Great American Conference y en la 2019-2020 logró sus mejores números de su carrera 17,53 puntos por encuentro en los 32 encuentros que disputó. Además, de su aportación ofensiva sumó 4,5 rebotes, 5,47 asistencias y 2,06 robos por partido lo que le valió ser proclamado como mejor defensor del año.
La LEB Oro relanzó su carrera
Tras concluir su formación universitaria, Speight se presentó al draft de la NBA 2020, donde no fue drafteado, por lo que prosiguió su carrera en España, donde fichó por el Alimerka Oviedo Baloncesto de LEB Oro, en el que demostró sus virtudes y se dio a conocer en la categoría, donde siguió tres años más en las filas de Zunder Palencia, MoraBanc Andorra y San Pablo Burgos, mostrando una media de más de 10 puntos de partido, subió de dos a casi cuatro rebotes de media y de 2,7 asistencias a 4,8 por partido.
El verano pasado fichó por el Fuerza Regia de Monterrey con el que promedió 11,7 puntos (45’5% de acierto en T3), 5,1 rebotes y 4,8 asistencias; y en la segunda parte de la temporada regresó a Europa para jugar en la segunda francesa en las filas del Pau-Lacq-Orthez, con el que promedió 11,4 puntos (44’2% de efectividad en T3), 4,2 rebotes y 5,6 asistencias por encuentro.
Ahora, llega a Granada para competir en el puesto de base y director de orquesta del Coviran Granada con Jonathan Rousselle, esperando dar el salto a la Liga Endesa tras varios años a un gran nivel en el segundo escalón del baloncesto español. Speight tiene pasaporte comunitario (al estar recientemente casado con una mujer de nacionalidad española podría obtener la plaza de comunitario), es el sexto fichaje de los rojinegros este verano y llega para aportar dinamismo, bote de balón y una importante eficacia en triples.
