A falta de una jornada, los brasileños tienen casi certificado el liderato del grupo D. Vencieron con determinación en un partido revolucionado y ante un Chelsea que no encontró su ritmo.

Brasileños e ingleses se enfrentaban en la jornada 2 del Mundial de Clubes.

En el conjunto Rubro Negro las novedades respecto al ES Tunis eran varias: Danilo como pareja central de Léo Pereira. El lateral derecho era para Wesley y como ariete, Gonzalo Plata era la referencia. Pedro Dos Santos empezaba en el banquillo.

Por parte de los Blues también había rotaciones. El recién llegado Liam Delap empezaba como ‘9’ de referencia. Chalobah acompañaba a Colwill en la zaga defensiva y Malo Gusto se ganaba el lateral para que un James ocupara la posición de interior.

Primera parte

El partido desde el primer momento se mostraba físico. Los de Filipe Luis destacaban con su gran salida de balón y transiciones rápidas, algo en lo que se mostraba vulnerable el cuadro de Maresca.

Tras superar a Malo Gusto asistía de cabeza a un Danilo que remataba de primeras tras esquivar a un Colwill que le perdía el marcaje.

La explosión del partido no acabaría aquí. Nicolas Jackson ingresaba el partido y en su primera acción era expulsado tras una falta agresiva a un jugador del Flamengo. El partido se ponía muy cuesta arriba para los ingleses.

Tras este revés, a los de Maresca les tocó sufrir de lo lindo. Sin un referente y con unos brasileños animados, los siguientes minutos se les hicieron eternos.

La pesadilla era eterna, otra vez un recién ingresado marcaba para sentenciar el partido, 3-1. Esta vez Wallace Yan en el 83′. Una combinación entre el autor y Plata con previa fortuna dentro del área bastó para hundir el barco del Chelsea.

Los minutos finales del encuentro sirvió para que el Chelsea buscara de alguna manera rascar algo de resultado, pero sin fortuna. Los cambios ingresados por Filipe Luis daban vida a un Flamengo que ya olía una gran victoria de gran importancia.
