Este martes, Atlético de Madrid y Bayer Leverkusen se verán las caras en la penúltima jornada de grupos de la Champions League. Tendrá lugar en el Metropolitano a las 21:00

Ganar para olvidar

Después de la derrota en la jornada 20 de la Liga EA Sports ante el Leganés, el equipo del ‘Cholo’ pone fin a la mejor racha de victorias en la historia del club. A pesar de esto, no hay demasiados motivos para encender las alarmas todavía. El equipo es segundo en competición doméstica, está en cuartos de final de la Copa del Rey y está en una buena posición para pasar directamente a octavos de la Champions. 

El partido ante el Leverkusen se antoja clave para que estas alarmas no aparezcan, ya que, por mucho que se lleve buena racha, encadenar dos derrotas seguidas no es plato de buen gusto para ningún equipo. No ocurre desde octubre, un mes para olvidar en el conjunto rojiblanco.

El Atlético encadena tres victorias seguidas en la competición europea y lleva la ventaja de jugar en casa contra los alemanes. Además, a Julián Álvarez y a Griezmann se les está dando especialmente bien en cuanto a cifras este torneo. Ambos suman cuatro dianas, y el francés acumula también dos pases de gol.

Simeone no podrá contar con uno de sus grandes baluartes desde el banquillo, Alexander Sorloth. Rodrigo Riquelme es duda por un virus, aunque ya entrena con normalidad, y Giménez parece que puede llegar a contar con minutos después de su lesión. Adrián Niño sustituirá al noruego en la convocatoria.

La demoledora alemana pasa por Madrid

El conjunto dirigido por Xabi Alonso encadena 13 partidos sin perder en todas las competiciones. En su camino han dejado a rivales como Bayern de Múnich, Borussia Dortmund o Inter de Milán. En la clasificación de la ‘liguilla’ de la Champions League, se posicionan cuartos. Eso sí, tan solo cuentan con un punto más que varios equipos entre los que está su rival de la jornada. 

En Bundesliga, ya están segundos a cuatro puntos de los de Múnich y llevan sin perder en liga desde agosto. Con un juego caracterizado por la posesión, son el tercer equipo con más precisión de pase en la competición. Influencia del fútbol español. No se la juegan, y saben elegir el momento y el lugar exacto por donde entrar y hacer daño.

Para romper los esquemas de los españoles, cuentan con jugadores como Florian Wirtz, que viene de marcar un doblete en el último partido de los Die Werkself. Este además es el máximo goleador del equipo en la Champions League. Otra figura a resaltar es el checo Patrik Schick, máximo anotador del equipo, contando todos los torneos, con 16 goles .

El técnico guipuzcoano tendrá que formar su once sin Amine Adli, Victor Boniface, Martín Terrier y Jeanuel Belocian.

Antecedentes

El encuentro más reciente y con trágico final para los rojiblancos, se dio hace dos campañas. El Atleti necesitaba ganar para no caer eliminado en fase de grupos. Con empate en el marcador y el partido acabado se termina el partido, pero el VAR revisa un posible penalti a favor de los madrileños. Este se acaba pitando y, para más frenetismo, Yannick Carrasco lo falla, errando también el rebote posterior que dejaba a su equipo eliminado.

Con ese encuentro y el de ida de grupos de esa misma temporada, Xabi Alonso nunca ha perdido contra el equipo del ‘Cholo’ al mando de los alemanes.

El balance histórico de enfrentamientos entre ambos conjuntos está equilibrado. Son tres victorias para los dos clubes y cuatro empates. El punto a favor del Atlético de Madrid es que los de Leverkusen nunca les han ganado jugando en casa.
