El Alavés deja escapar el partido en Mestalla, en minuto 97 y prolongando así  su racha negativa a seis jornadas consecutivas sin conocer la victoria. Los babazorros, en su tercer empate al hilo bajo el mando de Coudet, suman un punto frente a un rival directo como el Valencia, avanzando de uno en uno hacia un futuro incierto. La jornada, además, quedó marcada por el regreso de la polémica, con otra de esas «jugadas grises»  que vuelven a dejar a los vitorianos con sabor a injusticia.

El Alavés golpea primero pero pierde ritmo tras la lesión de Guridi

El glorioso empieza el partido por todo lo alto . A pesar de que en los primeros cinco minutos el Valencia asedió el área albiazul, fueron los visitantes quienes se adelantaron en el marcador. En el minuto 7, Carlos Vicente envió un centro desde la banda derecha que, tras un leve toque de Kike García, fue rematado con la pierna derecha por Carlos Martín, poniendo el 0-1 en el electrónico. 

Sin embargo, las malas noticias no tardaron en llegar. Apenas diez minutos después, Jon Guridi tuvo que ser sustituido por Stoichkov debido a una lesión muscular, lo que afectó al ritmo del encuentro. A partir de ese momento, el partido perdió intensidad. El Valencia, aunque intentó reaccionar, no logró superar sus constantes errores en los pases, mientras que el Alavés apenas generó peligro en el área de Dimitrievski. 

La ocasión más clara antes del descanso llegó en las botas de Stoichkov, quien intentó sorprender con un remate acrobático que obligó al guardameta local a desviar el balón a córner. Sin más acciones destacadas, ambos equipos se fueron al descanso con ventaja mínima para el conjunto babazorro.

El paso por vestuarios impulsó al glorioso a dar un ligero paso adelante, aunque las ocasiones claras seguían sin aparecer. Sin embargo, un giro inesperado llegó cuando Sivera tuvo que abandonar el terreno de juego tras lesionarse en una acción fortuita dentro del área en un lance con Hugo duro .

Jesús Owono, su sustituto, tomó su lugar bajo palos, pero su debut en el partido no fue el mejor. En su primera intervención, tiró un recorte en el qué se le vio que tiene un gran juego de pies  pero después de esta acción llegaría el fallo garrafal en donde Jesús derribó a un jugador del Valencia dentro del área.

Aunque el árbitro no señaló la acción como penalti en un principio, el VAR lo invitó a revisarla. Tras la revisión, el colegiado decretó el lanzamiento desde los once metros, desatando la polémica en Mestalla porque es cierto que Jesús owono toca el balón primero pero luego deriva a diego López. Luis Rioja tiro de veterinaria y anoto el penalti a su lado de confianza.

El paso de los minutos incrementó la tensión en Mestalla, con un Alavés y un Valencia temerosos de cometer errores decisivos. En una acción aislada, Diarra irrumpió en el área rival y cayó tras una patada del defensor local. El árbitro no dudó en señalar penalti, y Jordán, con precisión quirúrgica, envió el balón a la escuadra para adelantar a los albiazules. 

 

El encuentro se vio marcado por lesiones y pérdidas de tiempo, lo que llevó al colegiado a añadir 11 minutos de descuento. Fue en ese tramo final donde el Alavés, hasta entonces sólido en defensa, mostró cierta debilidad. La falta de contundencia permitió al Valencia igualar el marcador a tan solo cuatro minutos del pitido final.

Sin más ocasiones claras, el partido terminó en empate, dejando al Alavés con la necesidad de aprovechar el próximo parón para trabajar junto a Eduardo Coudet y buscar soluciones que les permitan romper su racha sin victorias.
