Después de una extraordinaria carrera como jugador, Ibai Gómez empieza a dar pasos importantes en los banquillos. 

 

UN NUEVO RETO

Arenas de Getxo, un club fundador de LaLiga, esta temporada tendrá un ex jugador como entrenador. Después de una dilatada carrera en Alavés, Deportivo y sobre todo Athletic Club, y después de ser primer entrenador de los juveniles del Santutxu y de la selección olímpica de República Dominicana, Ibai Gómez ha asumido el cargo de entrenador en Arenas de Getxo.

Uno de los clubes más importantes a nivel histórico del fútbol español, que está en horas bajas, ha contratado a Ibai Gómez, para intentar sentar las bases de un proyecto interesante, que a corto medio plazo haga que el club vaya ascendiendo categorías dentro de nuestro fútbol.

El club vasco lleva muchos años entre la antigua Segunda ‘B’ y la Tercera. Desde la remodelación de la federación, ha permanecido en la Segunda Federación, en la que tan solo en la temporada 2020/2021 han hecho playoff. 

La temporada pasada fue muy negativa, solamente un final de temporada con solo una derrota en las últimas siete jornadas, salvo a Arenas de Getxo del descenso a la quinta categoría de nuestro fútbol.

IBAI EN LOS BANQUILLOS

Por la parte del entrenador, empezó en los banquillos después de un intento fallido de firmar por el Dépor. Este firmó por el equipo gallego, pero después de comprobar por él mismo que no estaba en las condiciones físicas esperadas para competir en la Primera Federación, no solo dejó el Deportivo, sino que colgó las botas.

Su primera aventura como primer entrenador, fue en el juvenil ‘A’ de su club de formación, el Santutxu. Su posterior aventura ha sido de mucho nivel, en los pasados Juegos Olímpicos de París, estuvo dirigiendo a la selección de República Dominicana. Esta curiosamente estuvo emparejada en el grupo de España. La selección dominicana quedó apeada de la competición en la fase de grupos, con tan solo dos puntos.

UN INICIO COMPLICADO

Ahora se estrena en el fútbol semiprofesional, con una entidad con mucha historia dentro del panorama español, y con el objetivo de crecer de la mano del club, adquiriendo la experiencia necesaria que le haga llegar al fútbol de élite, como ya lo hizo en su etapa de  jugador.

En el inicio de la temporada, Arenas de Getxo ha conseguido una victoria y dos derrotas. Se ha enfrentado a Utebo, club que llegó a playoff la temporada pasada, SD Logroñés, equipo recién descendido desde la Primera Federación, y Calahorra, este último lo pudieron ganar por un 2-0.

Una temporada de mucha exigencia y compromiso para el técnico vasco, y el momento de sentar las bases para poner al club a su altura a nivel histórico, también a nivel deportivo, para Arenas de Getxo.
