Austria gana 3-2 a Países Bajos en un partido vertiginoso que no dejó un ganador claro hasta el pitido final
Austria se consolida como la clara sorpresa de esta Euro tras vencer a Holanda y pasar como primera de grupo en uno de los grupos más complicados de este torneo. La selección austriaca salió a jugar un futbol valiente y consiguió marcarle 3 goles a una selección holandesa que termina tercera de grupo.
Contexto
El último partido del grupo D enfrentaba a Austria y a Holanda. Un partido decisivo en un grupo tan apretado, donde Francia tenía 4 puntos, Holanda llevaba 4 puntos también y Austria atesoraba 3 valiosos puntos. Esta escasa ventaja entre selecciones hacía que Países Bajos llegara con las posibilidades de quedar primera de grupo, segunda de grupo, en caso de que Francia marcara más goles, o tercera de grupo si perdía contra Austria. De todas las maneras estaba clasificada para Octavos aunque pasar como primero siempre es importante. Koeman decidió dejar a Xavi Simons, Dumfires y Frimpong en el banquillo para este partido. Austria por su parte dejaba fuera del once a Laimer y a Baumgartner, que hasta ahora habían sido titulares durante la EURO.
Primera Parte
El partido comenzaba con una selección austriaca muy valiente, fiel a su ya característico juego vertical y ofensivo. Una selección Holandesa que en un principio partía como favorita para este encuentro no le quedó otra que achicar agua e intentar aguantar las continuas envestidas de los austriacos. Pese a los esfuerzos neerlandeses, Austria no tardó demasiado en abrir el marcador. En el minuto 6, un centro lateral de Prass que tenía como destino a Arnautovic, tocó en Malén en un intento de despeje y se coló en la portería holandesa; dejándonos otro gol en propia meta que ya es una constante en esta Eurocopa.
Un par de posesiones largas de la selección austriaca nos mostraron la versión más dominante de un equipo que no suele encadenar tantos pases seguidos para llegar a portería rival. Pero sin duda también sabe defenderse con balón y así lo demostraron haciendo que el tiempo pasara con el resultado a favor. Sin embargo Holanda también tuvo oportunidades para empatar, Malen falló un mano a mano en el minuto 22 que se marchó cerca del palo.
El partido estaba atascado y no llegaban con claridad ninguna de las dos selecciones. Koeman se cansó de esperar y decidió dar salida a Xavi Simons en el minuto 34. Un cambio aparentemente precipitado, pero lógico al ver el partido que estaba haciendo Países Bajos en esta primera mitad del partido. Aunque el cambio no hizo demasiado efecto, o por lo menos no de inmediato, ya que Austria siguió llegando.
Segunda Parte
En la segunda mitad Holanda parecía salir con las cosas más claras y solo necesitaron dos minutos para hacer el empate. Xavi Simons lideró un contraataque con una larga conducción que partía desde su campo y terminó entregándole el balón a Gakpo en banda izquierda. El delantero del Liverpool hizo lo que más le gusta, un control orientado hacia dentro y un latigazo con su pierna derecha al palo largo le fue suficiente para batir al portero austriaco.
En el minuto 58 Austria conseguía trenzar una jugada en la que Grillitsch llegaba a linea de fondo, ponía un balón al punto de penalti y Schid remataba lanzándose en plancha par darle toda la potencia posible y conseguía así hacer el 1-2.
En el minuto 75 fue Memphis quien consiguió anotar tras recoger un balón en el borde en el área pequeña que bajaba Wejhosrt con la cabeza. Un control con la tripa que el arbitro en un principio señaló mano ofreció algo de suspense para que el gol subiera finalmente al marcador.
Sin embargo Austria no tardaba mucho en reaccionar. 5 minutos después un magnifico balón filtrado de Baumgartner dejaba a Sabitzer delante de Verbrugen algo escorado a la derecha de la portería, pero el jugador del Dortumn no fallaba fusilando por encima de la cabeza del cancerbero.
El gol dejó algo tocado al conjunto neerlandés que recibieron otro gol pero esta vez en fuera de juego y por lo tanto no subió al marcador. Y la selección holandesa no supo terminar de remontar a una selección austriaca que sin duda ha sido una de las sorpresas en esta EURO2024
