El anterior entrenador del Real Valladolid Promesas llegó al club en el verano de 2019 donde estuvo al mando del Juvenil B. Tras esta experiencia fue subido al Juvenil A, en categoría División de Honor, y en la temporada 2021/2022 hizo su debut como entrenador del Real Valladolid Promesas en donde ha estado al mando hasta su cese en el día de hoy.
Con una mala dinámica y con tan solo tres victorias en diez partidos ha hecho que Julio Baptista deje de ser el técnico del filial. Esta mañana el club ha notificado a Julio su destitución y ha hecho oficial la llegada al cargo de Álvaro Rubio.
Tras el último partido contra el Ourense Fc, con derrota 0-1 del conjunto blanquivioleta, Julio Baptista llegó a rueda de prensa y manifestó su disconformidad con la gestión que se estaba llevando con el filial diciendo que había ordenes de arriba de que debían jugar ciertos futbolistas y que hasta la noche del día anterior al partido no tenía ni el once titular decidido debido a que no sabía con que jugadores contaba para el encuentro. Días después, es cesado de su cargo.

El riojano Álvaro Rubio, nacido en 1979, cuenta con una experiencia previa en los banquillos tras haber formado parte del los staff técnicos de las últimas seis temporadas. Su andadura comenzó con Luis César en la temporada 2017/2018 , tras la destitución de este y la llegada de Sergio González, siguió en el cuerpo técnico logrando el ascenso a Primera División al final dicha temporada. Desde entonces el exblanquivioleta y antiguo capitán del club se ha mantenido en los cuerpos técnicos de José Rojo «Pacheta» y actualmente en el de Paulo Pezzolano, que ocupaba el cargo de asistente técnico.
El exjugador Álvaro Rubio, que militó desde el 2006 hasta el 2016 en las filas blanquivioletas, toma este proyecto en un momento crítico tras la mala dinámica y mal juego del filial.
Todavía no se conoce la duración de contrato y tampoco está cerrado el cuerpo técnico con el que contará el riojano.
