El Athletic Club supera 1-0 a un Atlético de Madrid que no mostró una buena imagen y suma 2 derrotas en una semana para olvidar
San Mamés acogió su segundo partido de la semana ante un equipo de la capital. Los de Valverde dominaron el encuentro y se llevaron la victoria con un gran gol de Berenguer en el minuto 84. El Atlético volvió a mostrar una pobre imagen como visitante y se descuelga del liderato.
Primera mitad
Simeone colocó un once inicial poco habitual tras las bajas de Baena, Giménez y Cardoso, lesionados en el Camp Nou. La línea defensiva la formaron Molina, Pubill, Lenglet y Hancko. En el centro del campo Gallagher acompañó a Barrios y Almada a Julián en la punta de ataque. Desde el comienzo se vio a un Athletic dominador y con ese plus de competitividad que tiene el equipo de Valverde en los duelos contra el Atlético.
El equipo madrileño sin embargo contó con 2 ocasiones claras en los primeros 20 minutos. Almada conectó una buena volea que Unai Simón despejó con el pie y Barrios anotó otra volea que fue anulada por falta clara de Pubill a Unai Simón en el saque de esquina previo. El Atlético se vio superado principalmente por la banda derecha.
El emparejamiento de Nico Williams con Molina salió favorable para el extremo español en la mayoría de las ocasiones. Los desbordes del menor de los Williams fueron imparables para un Nahuel Molina que está a un nivel muy bajo.
Segunda mitad
En la segunda mitad ambos equipos introdujeron cambios. Simeone retiró a Almada y Julián demasiado pronto cuando eran los únicos que había inquietado a la defensa bilbaína. Valverde retiró a los jugadores más cansados para aportar nuevas energías al ataque.
El guion del partido apenas cambió con respecto a la primera parte. La posesión fue cambiando de dueño pero las ocasiones más peligrosas las tuvieron los locales. Un Nico Williams estelar pudo abrir la lata en numerosas ocasiones. Tirando caños dentro del área y regates que dejaron vendido a Molina durante los segundo 45 minutos. A la estrella de los vascos le faltó afinar de cara a puerta.
En el 83′ Sorloth remató un buen centro lateral que Unai Simón blocó con seguridad pese al peligro que llevaba la acción. En esa misma jugada, el Athletic logró llegar al área colchonera y tras un pase a la frontal de Nico Williams, Berenguer remató de primeras para el delirio de los aficionados bilbaínos.
Con estos 3 puntos el Athletic Club deja atrás la pésima imagen que mostro ante el Real Madrid y deja al Atlético a 9 puntos del liderato con 2 derrotas seguidas como visitante.
