El estadio Nuevo Los Cármenes acogía un histórico duelo de Copa del Rey para el fútbol granadino en Primera Ronda entre el UD Maracena y el Valencia. Un duelo sin precedentes y que suponía un reto histórico para el humilde conjunto azullilo de División de Honor Andaluza, y un partido con poco que ganar y mucho que perder por parte del club ché.
El UD Maracena puso la ilusión, el Valencia las ocasiones
El UD Maracena salió con energía y logró intimidar al Valencia en los primeros compases, aunque la primera ocasión del partido fue para Hugo Duro, que finalizó una contra con un disparo raso que detuvo David García, el guardameta maracenero.

Con el control del partido, y una UD Maracena sin energía, el delantero neerlandés remató un centro raso de Rioja en un posible fuera de juego para a fata de diez minutos hacer la manita.
No llegó por poco la media docena, y Hayes se topó con Dimitrievski en la más clara de la UD Maracena en el encuentro. La eliminatoria finalizó en el 90´sin añadido con 0-5, en una auténtica fiesta para Maracena, que desplazó gran parte del pueblo al Nuevo Los Cármenes.
