El futbolista vasco, con el que contaba Hansi Flick hasta hace apenas una semana como pieza fundamental de su plantilla, tendría las horas contadas en el FC Barcelona. Gerard Romero informa que el motivo de tan acelerada operación, que llevaría varios días encima de la mesa de Joan Laporta, sería la liberación de una gran cantidad de masa salarial. Por otro lado, Fabrizio Romano asegura que se marcharía libre, por lo que rescindiría el año restante de contrato y no dejaría dinero en las arcas azulgranas.

Aunque es una noticia sorprendente para la totalidad del mundo del fútbol, Íñigo Martínez notificó recientemente al Barça de la posibilidad de marcharse, motivo que explicaría el por qué el central de 34 años no disputó ningún minuto frente al Daegu FC, excusado por el conjunto azulgrana bajo el nombre de «molestias musculares». Además, en ese mismo reciente choque, Flick ya sorprendió poniendo como titular a Gerard Martín en una posición algo inusual para él, es decir, como defensa central izquierdo. No obstante, aunque el central vasco ha entrenado esta misma mañana con total normalidad, esta tarde ha recibido un permiso por parte del club para cerrar el traspaso.
¿Cambio de planes tras la salida de Íñigo Martínez?
A partir de esta salida, la pregunta que le puede surgir a muchos culés es qué pasos tomará el Barça para sustituir a Íñigo Martínez. Si bien se confirmó recientemente que Araujo seguiría en las filas del club, además figurándose como primer capitán, la continuidad de Christensen seguía en duda. Ahora, a raíz de la salida del ex jugador de Athletic Club y Real Sociedad, su futuro está más dentro que fuera.
La realidad es que el Barça cuenta con cuatro centrales (Cubarsí, Araujo, Eric Garcia y Christensen) además de Jules Koundé, reconvertido en lateral, y Gerard Martín, a quien irá probando el técnico alemán a la espera de una llegada que amplíe la profundidad de banquillo en la faceta defensiva.
