La diferencia entre ambos era tal que, por poco, el partido no terminó con otro rompimiento de saque del británico. Sin embargo, Norrie, que estuvo muy combativo durante todo el encuentro, resistió y pudo salvar su honor, al menos manteniendo su último turno de servicio. Finalmente, el número 2 del mundo cerró el partido en menos de dos horas con un 6-3.
El murciano venció a un rival que, a pesar de luchar en cada punto, nunca estuvo cerca de inquietar al número 2 del mundo. Su próximo rival será el estadounidense Taylor Fritz, quien venció al ruso Khachanov en cuatro sets.
