Primera parte

Tras un retraso de poco más de una hora debido a temas climáticos, el partido comenzó con una ofensiva de Mamelodi Sundowns, encabezada por Arthur Sales que terminó en un córner. Después de una correcta recuperación tras perdida de «Los Tigres» coreanos, al minuto 17, ganaron un tiro libre que Bojanic envió a las gradas. La primera intervención del portero Hyeon-Woo Jo fue en un ataque de Mamelodi, en el cual tuvo que cortar un centro haciendo uso de sus puños.  Por parte de Ronwen Williams tuvo contacto con el balón por primera vez al minuto 23, tras atajar un débil tiro de Bojanic. Una gran oportundad para Mamelodi llegó en los pies de Rayners que realizó una diagonal correcta, pero su disparo fue bloqueado por Trojak, acción que desembocó en un tiro de esquina. Dicha acción terminó en un gol anulado Mamelodi Sundowns al minuto 31, a causa de un contacto con la mano del delantero con el número 13.

Rayners obtuvo revancha a su gol anulado unos minutos más tarde, aprovechando un gran pase filtrado de Lucas Ribeiro. El delantero remató de forma espectacular con una clase de trivela, dejando atrás a Trojak y sentenciando el 0-1 momentáneo. Rayners tendría su segundo gol anulado en la unos minutos más tarde. Hyeon-Woo Jo volvió a intervenir al atajar un espectacular tiro libre cobrado por Mokoena, enviando el balón a otro tiro de esquina, el cual volvió a cortar correctamente, aunque casi entrando con el balón a su portería. Al 45  el equipo coreano casi encuentra el gol en los pies de Seung-Beom Ko, cuyo disparo fue detenido en la línea por Grant Kekana. Los primeros 45 minutos culminaron con 2 córners seguidos para Ulsan Hyundai, los cuales no pudieron tener un reflejo en el marcador, sellando así que ambos equipos se fueran al medio tiempo con la victoria con ventaja de 1 gol para Mamelodi Sundowns.

Segunda parte

Los segundos 45 minutos comenzaron con la posesión de parte de Mamelodi Sundowns, quienes dominaban el balón, así como toda acción que sucediera en el terreno de juego. Por parte de Ulsan, su postura fue adelantar las líneas, intentando incomodar la posesión de «Los Brasileños». El dominió del equipo sudafricano fue roto por una posesión de Ulsan al 51, la cual terminó en un tiro de esquina. Al 54 Mamelodi estuvo cerca de anotar su segundo gol, sin embargo un afortunado rebote en el cuerpo de Ludwigson envió el balón a otro tiro de esquina. La primera tarjeta en el partido fue para Bojanic, quien paró un contragolpe tomando a su rival por la camiseta.

A pesar de la presión más adelantada propuesta por el equipo surcoreano, eran los sudafricanos quienes lograban plantarse cerca del arco rival con más facilidad. El autor del 0-1, Rayners, era quien encabezaba las ofensivas de Mamelodi Sundowns, quien al 60 estuvo cerca de aumentar la ventaja, aunque fue bloqueado correctamente. Grant Kekana evitó el grito de gol para Ulsan, cortando de manera correcta un tiro de Woo-Young Jung.

En el minuto 68 Seung-Beom Ko regaló una peligrosa falta al borde del área, la cual afortunadamente para él terminó en la barrera de su equipo tras un mal disparo de Mokoeana.
