Un gran Atlético y un gran Giuliano se lleva el encuentro y el billete que le hace ir a las semifinales de copa y un Getafe muy flojo, que no tuvo opción durante todo el encuentro y en el que recibe la primera derrota del año y se convierte en un dura derrota para los de José Bordalás.
El conjunto del sur de Madrid se enfrentaba en esta ocasión al Atlético de Madrid, donde visitaba el Riyadh Metropolitano, en unos cuartos de final, que iba a ser un encuentro entre dos equipos de la capital.
Un partido que se iba a vivir con emoción y nervios por parte de los dos equipos, ya que se jugaban un billete para las semifinales de Copa del Rey, el ultimo precedente entre ambos conjuntos en el Riyadh Metropolitano, fue en la jornada 17 de liga, donde un único tanto de Sorloth le daba la victoria al conjunto dirigido por el «cholo» Simeone.
El Getafe intentaría seguir la dinámica de este nuevo año, en el que todavía no conoce la derrota.
Primera Parte
Rodaba el balón en el Metropolitano con posesión para el Atlético, con una buena presión por parte de los del Cholo, pero el Getafe no se iba a quedar atrás con líneas muy avanzadas, y ahí tuvo el primer espacio el Atlético que casi consigue Julián Álvarez el balón para quedarse solo frente a la portería de Letacek, despejo la zaga azulona. Alderete cometía un error en la entrega que formaba una contra para el Atlético, pero terminó con un remate flojo a portería. Minuto 7 y ya abría el marcador el Atlético, por mediación de Giuliano, un gran centro de Javi Galán al segundo palo, y Giuliano con un gran remate, abre el marcador en el Metropolitano.
El Getafe reclamaba falta en el gol de Giuliano y veía la amonestación Uche por protestas, el Getafe no se rendiría y buscaba el empate, pero el Atlético seguía teniendo ocasiones, Griezmann en el 11´chutaba desde la frontal, recogía el balón Letacek. Rondaba el 15´y el Getafe no encontraba espacios, con pases imprecisos, un juego cómodo para el Atlético. Se producía el segundo del Atlético y el segundo de Giuliano, en un contrataque en el 16´, cambiaba de orientación Julián Álvarez, Alderete dudaba y se comió el balón que llegaba a De Paul y de primeras, pone un pase a Giuliano que supera a Letacek y aumentaba el marcador. El Getafe no se encontraba cómodo en el partido y el Atlético seguía creando peligro arriba. En el 23´una gran jugada de los del Cholo, centraba Molina y Julián Álvarez a la media vuelta casi tiene una gran oportunidad de ampliar el marcador, despejo la defensa del Getafe. Gran ocasión en el 26´, con otro gran centro raso de Molina y que casi toca Lino, y el balón se envenena para la portería del Getafe, gran mano de Letacek para evitar el tercero. Que ocasión en el 33´despues de hacerse el lio Domingos Duarte y perder el balón, Julián Álvarez falló solo para empujarla.
En el 41´ampliaba el marcador Lino, recibía el balón y con un recorte dejaba sentado a Juan Iglesias, y gran gol de Lino. Posteriormente reaccionaba el Getafe con una gran ocasión de Uche.
Concluyó la primera parte con un Getafe que no se encontraba y con muchos errores atrás, y un Atlético que realizaba numerosas contras y hacia mucho daño al conjunto azulón, con tres goles y ocasiones muy claras para ampliar el marcador.
Segunda Parte
Volvía a rodar el balón en el Riyadh Metropolitano, con varios cambios en ataque por parte del conjunto de José Bordalás, con la intención de darle la vuelta al marcador, comenzaba con la posesión el conjunto azulón. En el 48´otra gran triangulación del Atlético ponía Giuliano el cuarto, pero el colegiado señalo fuera de juego, no subía al marcador el gol que podía sentenciar el partido. El Getafe intentaba desatascar la situación, pero el Atlético con sus triangulaciones y contras, seguían haciendo daño al conjunto azulón. Se veía otra cara en el Getafe, presionando todos los balones y no permitiendo que el Atlético saliese cómodo con la salida de balón. En el 58´primera gran ocasión del Getafe en esta segunda parte y la primera entre los 3 palos en todo el partido, con un chut de Carles Pérez, sin mayor dificultad para Musso.
Gran jugada del Getafe y buen remate de Terrats en el 62´, que Musso manda a córner, un saque de esquina que no tendría peligro. En el 65´reclamaba Mayoral un penalti que no fue revisado, con la interpretación arbitral de que no hubo nada en la jugada. Aprovechaba José Bordalás para darle minutos a jugadores de la cantera azulona, y seguir buscando recortar distancias. El Atlético calmaba el juego cuando solo quedaban 15 minutos para concluir el partido, lo contrario que el Getafe que tenia la posesión y buscaba con insistencia marcar el primero, pero no le salía nada a los jugadores azulones. Veía la segunda amarilla el Getafe, el canterano Ismael arrollaba a Lino.
Sentenciaba el encuentro Correa en el 78´, recibió el balón Correa en la frontal y no se lo pensó con un remate cruzado superaba la meta defendida por Letacek. Llegaba en el 85´el quinto gol para los del Cholo, una gran recuperación de Correa, le daba el balón a Sorloth para que definiera a placer.
Concluyó el partido en el Riyadh Metropolitano en el que el arbitro no daba tiempo para más, con un Getafe que quedaba fuera de copa en una flojísima actuación en todo el partido y un Atlético que estuvo espectacular.
