Osasuna da la campanada en San Mamés eliminando al campeón, que no pudo materializar sus ocasiones. Por su parte, los rojillos resistieron las embestidas de los leones y aprovecharon sus ocasiones para colarse en cuartos

Osasuna y Athletic Club dejaron una eliminatoria muy competida que acabó cayendo del lado navarro. Los rojillos se adelantaron en el marcador, y cuando el Atletic lo empató y parecía directo a ganar, Osasuna logró el gol de la victoria. San Mamés acogió el partido de los octavos de Copa, que recordó al mejor fútbol. San Mamés vivió una oda al esférico y el encuentro dejó de todo. Goles, cambios de guion, polémicas arbitrales…

Los primeros minutos del partido fueron muy abiertos y las ocasiones se sucedieron en ambas áreas. Ninguno de los dos equipos lograba controlar el partido, y los aficionado neutrales disfrutaban de un auténtico partidazo. Los vascos salieron con ganas de adelantarse en la eliminatoria. Guruzeta se sacaba una ocasión de la manga, en una jugada en la que no era ni un tiro ni un centro, pero que obligó a una intervención de mérito a Sergio Herrera. Y a la siguiente jugada Jauregizar lo probaba desde la frontal.

Respondía Osasuna con un remate de Budimir que pudo complicarse. La igualdad era mayúscula, pero el caudal ofensivo del Athletic seguía siendo mayor. De nuevo, tuvo que aparecer Sergio Herrera pero evitar el remate de Iñaki Williams. 

El partido entra en una fase loca

Los últimos minutos de la primera parte fueron de un mayor ritmo y nos dejaron 3 goles. Budimir caía en el área cuando buscaba el remate, agarrado por Yuri, que evitaba un gol cantado. Sin embargo, la jugada a ojos de Busquets Ferrer no era penalti. Iñaki Williams sacaba un gran remate que obligó a Sergio Herrera a realizar una intervención de muchos quilates.

Los locales empezaban a merecer el gol, pero iba a ser Osasuna quien abriese la lata. Areso ponía un balón en el área que le caía a Aimar Oroz y ponía el 0-1. Y el castigo sería doble para el Athletic, pues un error en salida de Paredes, obligó a Aguirrezabala a derribar a Budimir y cometer penalti. Desde los 11 metros, el croata no fallaba y lograba el 0-2. Y en la última jugada del primer tiempo, Iñaki Williams recortaba distancias con una volea directa a la escuadra, aprovechando el pase de su hermano Nico.

Los leones salieron encendidos de vestuarios y encerraron a Osasuna. Los vascos encadenaban córners y ocasiones sin demasiado peligro, ante un conjunto rojillo desbordado. Primero la tuvo Jauregizar con un remate de cabeza, que no consiguió diriguir entre los 3 palos. El joven mediocentro estaba siendo el mejor del partido y le puso un gran pase al espacio a De Marcos, que sorprendía con un tiro impecable y ponía el 2-2. El Athletic quería más y Jauregizar la volvía a tener de cabeza.

Osasuna no lograba salir y cada vez estaba más contra las cuerdas. Pero a la contra, Budimir pudo sorprender a los locales. El crota no supo materializar el mano a mano y el tiro se le fue alto. Y en la siguiente Galarreta avisó desde la frontal, para volver a encerrar a los rojillos. El Athletic apretaba cada vez más, pero no lograban culminar la remontada. Osasuna aprovechó un error de Aguirrezabala y se volvió a adelantar. Rubén García sacaba un gran tiro que Aguirrezabala detenía, dejando el balón muerto en el área pequeña y Budimir la acababa metiendo. 

Con el triunfo parcial de Osasuna, los vascos se volcaron en ataque. Iñaki y Guruzeta probaban a Sergio Herrera, aunque con escasa fortuna. Tras sacar el tiro al 9 del Athletic, Boyomo golpeaba involuntariamente a su meta y lo dejaba KO. Aitor salía para sustituir a un Sergio Herrera que había hecho un partidazo. Los locales se volcaron, pero ninguna de las ocasiones logró poner en aprietos a Aitor. Nico Serrano probó a Aitor en una de las últimas, pero Aitor impidió que el revulsivo lograse el empate.
