Empate a 1 entre el Athletic y el Alavés en la jornada 17 de liga. Los rojiblancos consiguieron adelantarse al comienzo de la primera mitad y se encontraron cómodos durante todo el partido. Una ocasión manifiesta, le valió al Alavés para empatar el partido. Los visitantes intentaron reaccionar, pero les resultó imposible encontrar el ritmo necesario para volver a hacer un gol.

Contexto

El Athletic viaja a Mendizorroza en busca de alejarse de sus rivales que luchan por los puestos Champions. Siendo muy optimistas una victoria les acercaría a los primeros puestos de la liga, y por qué no soñar con algo grande. El Alavés llega al partido en un contexto completamente diferente. Tienen que hacerse fuertes en su casa para evitar los puestos de descenso.

Primera parte

El partido comenzaba con un colorido Mendizorroza que lucía un precioso tifo durante los primeros 4 minutos. La primera ocasión fue para el Athletic. Nico Williams llegó al área y se topó con un balón procedente de un centro lateral que no esperaba y la mandó arriba de la portería local. A los 9 minutos el Athletic consiguió adelantarse en el marcador. Unai Gómez rompía a la espalda de la defensa desde segunda línea e Iñaki le ponía el balón al espacio dejándole completamente solo. El 20 rojiblanco no se lo pensó demasiado y definió fuerte y raso al primer palo.

Tras el gol, el Alavés trató de hacerse con la posesión y llegar al área rival con paciencia. El Athletic en cambio, optó por defenderse, presionar a media altura y salir con transiciones rápidas al ataque. En el minuto 40 tuvo Guridi la más clara para el Alavés, que llegó a pisar área en conducción con el balón. Por fortuna para los rojiblancos, se topó con Vivian, que estuvo imperial yendo al cruce. Con un despeje poco ortodoxo consiguió solventar los problemas de su equipo.

Con un Alavés sin ideas en ataque y un Athletic demasiado cómodo en el partido, el colegiado puso fin a los primeros 45 minutos del encuentro.

Segunda parte

En la segunda mitad, el Athletic salió con la intención de proponer más y se hizo con la posesión del balón. En el minuto 54 se le escapó a Berenguer una ocasión clara. Nico Williams se buscó el espacio en banda izquierda y lanzó un centro con la derecha que se iba cerrando dirección portería. Berenguer con un gran desmarque al segundo palo, estuvo a punto de tocar la pelota, pero no llegó a conectar y el balón se marchó rozando el palo.

En el minuto 56, Mendizorroza pidió un penalti por mano de Yuri. El árbitro no lo consideró al interpretar que tocó involuntariamente y tras rebotar el balón en el suelo. En el 67 llegó el gol del Alavés en un semi error de Unai. Lanzó Guridi desde la frontal del área un tiro seco y raso que Unai no pudo atrapar. El rechace quedó en el área pequeña y fue Jordan el hombre más rápido en llegar al balón y con un toque sutil lo mandó al fondo de la red.

El Athletic, más impreciso de lo normal, intentó volver a ponerse por delante pero no encontró ninguna ocasión manifiesta de gol. El partido se rompió en los últimos minutos y se convirtió en ataques continuos para ambos lados, aunque fueron los visitantes los que más insistieron.

En el descuento el Athletic consiguió marcar tras el rechace de un córner, pero el colegiado lo anuló al considerar que había una falta anterior por parte de Vivian. Finalmente el partido terminó en un empate a 1 que no dejó contentos a ninguno de los dos equipos.
