Primera Parte
El primer tiempo del encuentro comenzaba con un Rayo Vallecano muy activo en Mestalla. Con balones en largo y aéreos el Rayo comenzó a hacer mucho daño a la defensa del Valencia. Así, a los pocos minutos de comenzar el partido, alrededor del minuto 7, un gran centro al primer palo al que llega Pathé acaba enviando su cabezazo al fondo de la red, adelantándose en el marcador. Inmediatamente, el Valencia empieza a buscar rápido el empate para su equipo, sobre todo intenta a hacer daño por la banda izquierda con Gayá y Valera, aunque sin éxito. Tras el primer gol del Rayo Vallecano, el Valencia se hace con la posesión del balón, pero no encuentran espacios y no es capaz de generar peligro en campo rival.
Tras un remate de Isi Palazón que se marcho a la grada, el guardameta del Valencia hizo saltar las alarmas en el banquillo del Valencia. Tras unas molestias físicas, Mamardashvili se tira al suelo. El Valencia lo intenta y el Rayo sufre por mantener la ventaja en el marcador. Gran actuación del equipo de Vallecas en defensa. No obstante, en el minuto 80 del partido, una jugada polémica hacen saltar las alarmas en el campo por un posible gol del Valencia, que casi de manera imposible salva Lejeune en la línea de gol. Los jugadores del Valencia piden la revisión del gol desde el VAR, pero el árbitro deja seguir el juego.
Minutos finales en Mestalla, y el Valencia se queda sin oportunidades. Solo un remate de cabeza de Rafa Mir en el último minuto del encuentro pudo poner el empate en el marcador.
