Los vascos se exhibieron en la primera mitad y acabaron sufriendo. Casi 30.000 personas acudieron al recinto de 7 Palmas. Unai Simón y Yeray Álvarez fueron bajas.

PRIMERA MITAD

La primera parte comenzó con dos ocasiones muy claras para ambos conjuntos, sobre todo para los amarillos, que fallaron una en línea de gol. El Athletic tomó el control del juego con sumas llegadas provocando el primer gol a los 7´. Sancet anotó su segunda diana en la temporada demostrando así su gran momento de forma. Tras el gol, continuaba la mala racha de los canarios en defensa, que no dejan la portería a cero desde el mes de febrero. Más tarde, el Lince tendría otra clara ocasión que rozaría el palo de la portería de Jasper Cillessen.

Tras ello, comenzaron a escucharse varios pitos desde la grada, que no le gustaba lo que veía de su equipo. Las Palmas no estaba cómoda en el campo. Dos minutos después, el atacante anotaría su segundo gol. Este acabó anulado por fuera de juego. A la media hora, Nico Williams recogió un despeje del Cillessen, hizo una pared con su hermano Iñaki y disparó al palo largo para anotar el segundo de la tarde. Los amarillos comenzaron a llegar más al área vasca, donde Kirian tuvo otra clara ocasión que sacó en la línea Paredes.

Tras tres minutos de descuento, el colegiado pitó el final de la primera parte.

SEGUNDA MITAD

Carrión dio entrada a Fabio y a Álex Muñoz por Campaña y Álex Suárez, respectivamente. El partido comenzó a emocionarse a los 10´ por la roja directa que recibió Jauregizar. Sandro se dirigía solo al área rival y calló tras tropezarse con el mediocentro. Esto trastocó los planes de Ernesto Valverde. El delantero grancanario pegó un pelotazo de libre directo hacia la escuadra anotando un golazo. Esto supuso el 1-2 con más de media hora por delante. Fábio Silva entró al campo provocando varias ocasiones claras. Los isleños estaban sabiendo aprovechar la superioridad numérica.

Sin embargo, en el último cuarto de hora, cuando Las Palmas esteba en su mejor momento, Iñaki Williams entregaría su tercera asistencia de la tarde. Tocaba seguir y los locales seguían luchando. McBurnie salió y entró Jaime Mata. Más tarde, Kirian pondría «con música» un balón al área que remataría Álex Muñoz, que marcó su primer gol en Primera División.

Ortiz Arias prolongó cuatro minutos de añadido. La afición no dudó en pitarle tras no estar de acuerdo con él.
