La selección francesa no consiguió ganar el partido pese a poner prácticamente toda la carne en el asador en su once inicial. Un partido con pocas ocasiones claras de gol que deja algunas dudas en Francia que a priori es una de las favoritas.
Contexto
Didier Deschamps salía con un 11 bastante reconocible y con bastantes posibilidades de que sea el 11 titular durante la Eurocopa. Sin embargo, pese a tener el dominio de la pelota no consiguieron generar peligro, no lograron tirar a puerta. Francia se defendía «cómodamente» y disputó un juego más directo, atacando por bandas y llegando con algo más de peligro. Los franceses consiguieron plantarse varias veces dentro del área. La más clara la tuvo Thuram, tras una buena jugada de griezmann que consiguió dar un centro raso, el delantero del Inter mandó el balón al larguero tras ser levemente desviado por Crepeau.
Segunda Parte
En la segunda mitad Canada saldría con más determinación y comenzaría avisando con un disparo de Millar con rosca, buscando el palo largo, que terminaría impactando en el larguero. Aunque en los minutos siguientes, el resto de jugadas peligrosas caerían del lado de los franceses. Iban pasando los minutos y apenas aparecieron ocasiones manifiestas de gol. La más clara de los franceses la tuvo Giroud en un intento de remate que no supo negociar el espacio con Thuram y terminó en nada. En el minuto 78 Canada consiguió trenzar un buen contraataque pero Jonatan David no consiguió finalizar al verse adelantado por Saliba cuando estaba apunto de empujar el balón a la red. Deschamps daba salida a Mbappé cuando quedaban apenas 15 minutos de partido pero la estrella francesa tampoco fue capaz de abrir el marcador. El partido terminaba en un empate a 0 en lo que pareció un partido con un pacto de no agresión.
