A pesar de que el W15 se presenta como un coche más consistente que sus predecesores, Mercedes no ha tenido un comienzo prometedor en la temporada. En el Gran Premio de Baréin, quedaron como el tercer equipo en la clasificación, sin posibilidad de competir por el podio y con la percepción de que hay mucho trabajo por hacer para recuperar la competitividad.
Wolff realista ante la situación
«Sin tener en cuenta los problemas, estamos como el tercer equipo más rápido, detrás de Ferrari y Red Bull. Estamos, obviamente, a gran distancia de Max, así que tendremos que ver qué sucede. Necesitamos entender por qué hemos perdido tanto rendimiento con el neumático duro. Hemos fallado con el nivel de refrigeración y hemos tenido que retroceder».
A pesar de la falta de optimismo, Wolff instó a mantener una perspectiva equilibrada y aprender de la situación. Reconoció la necesidad de analizar los datos para obtener más información sobre las razones detrás de la falta de ritmo.
«Hay muchas cosas que aprender y no puedo responder porque no sabemos las razones detrás de la falta de ritmo. Los datos nos darán más información. Incluso cuando ganamos ocho títulos seguidos no era optimista. Tenemos que seguir manteniendo el vaso medio lleno, medio vacío, para salir de esta situación».
Lewis Hamilton, séptimo puesto sufrido
En cuanto a Lewis Hamilton, quien solo pudo avanzar hasta la séptima posición, admitió que no fue un buen inicio de temporada y destacó la importancia de mejorar en las 23 carreras restantes. Hamilton mencionó que, a pesar de los desafíos, se siente bien y ha aprendido mucho del coche en la última tanda de la carrera.
«Me siento genial, el entrenamiento de invierno ha funcionado. Probablemente, hay algo de decepción dentro del equipo, no he visto a nadie. Hemos sufrido en el coche hoy, lo he dado todo, pero no había mucho rendimiento en comparación a muchos de los rivales. Creo que si hubiese clasificado mejor, habría estado un par de posiciones más arriba. La última tanda ha sido buena, he descubierto mucho del coche».
