Los técnicos de ambos equipos comparecieron en zona mixta al término de la eliminatoria copera

Tras una eliminatoria protagonizada por la suspensión del encuentro, provocada por fallos en las instalaciones lumínicas, Marcelino y Dani Ponz analizaron los entresijos de la misma en una rueda de prensa que se preveía polémica, por los rumores de que no se disputó el tiempo suplementario en el día de ayer ante la supuesta negativa del submarino amarillo de jugar la prórroga, viendo que los focos que alumbraban el estadio sufrían averías constantemente.

El entrenador asturiano se mostró con un semblante sereno tras la eliminación de su equipo en la tanda de penaltis a manos del Unionistas de Salamanca, a quien felicitó por su pase a octavos de final, elogiando también a su hinchada, que llevó en volandas a sus jugadores hasta conseguir dar la campanada copera: «Hay que darle la enhorabuena a la afición local, porque ha tenido un comportamiento súper correcto y ha apoyado a su equipo como debe ser. Es muy bonito ver cómo un equipo de inferior categoría, apoyado por su gente, compite contra uno de una superior. Este formato de Copa se ha hecho para que haya estos momentos de felicidad para ciertos equipos. Es bonito venir a jugar a este ambiente sabedores de la dificultad.»

Sin embargo, se mostró enfadado con las habladurías que lo situaban como principal valedor de que la eliminatoria se terminara de disputar hoy, argumentando que «cualquier que lo analice ve que cuando se juega una prórroga en un porcentaje muy alto el mayor favorecido es el equipo de Primera siempre ante un equipo de Primera RFEF. Además, ¿qué beneficio sacábamos de quedarnos nosotros hoy? Eran todo contras: quedarnos en Salamanca un día más y no podíamos hacer tantos cambios. Si dijéramos que ayer jugamos con muchos poco habituales y que hoy nos convenía aprovecharnos de la circunstancia federativa para hacer muchos cambios…»

Ya en referencia al choque, el asturiano comentó que había sido un encuentro muy igualado, condenado a decidirse mediante penas máximas o en una jugada puntual muchos balones directos y en el que hubo poco juego efectivo, pero se consideró justo perdedor, y deseó la mayor de las suertes al equipo charro en su andadura por el torneo del K.O.

Dani Ponz

El técnico del club salmantino atendió a los medios de comunicación después del preparador equipo castellonense, visiblemente exultante y emocionado por el gran apoyo que han recibido de todas partes de la geografía nacional, poniendo en valor el gran esfuerzo que han realizado sus jugadores, mostrando valentía y arrojo ante todo un campeón de Europa, y consiguiendo la victoria finalmente, destacando que «casi era inmerecido llegar a los penaltis, ya que pudimos ganar incluso antes, pero nos faltó puntería y casta para anotar el segundo gol».

Ponz fue preguntado por su preferencia para octavos de final, que finalmente será el F.C Barcelona, y confesó que apenas se había parado a pensarlo, y que cualquiera que viniera al Reina Sofía sería afrontado con el mismo valor e ilusión que hoy ante el Villarreal C.F.

Al igual que el entrenador visitante, quiso reconocer y agradecer a su hinchada por acudir al partido en un día laborable, que se preveía con menos gente, y que sin embargo volvió a llenar las gradas del Municipal, añadiendo que «Unionistas es más que una afición, es un fenómeno social cada vez más grande, desde zonas de toda España»
