Max Verstappen ha iniciado el Gran Premio de Baréin con optimismo y una actitud positiva, describiendo su Red Bull RB20 como el automóvil a vencer este fin de semana, a pesar de reconocer que hay «un par de cosas que deben mejorar»

Aunque la semana pasada los tests de pretemporada dieron indicios de que Red Bull sigue siendo la fuerza líder en la parrilla, Max Verstappen, quien concluyó la pretemporada con una sonrisa, tuvo un día más desafiante hoy. El piloto neerlandés terminó en sexto lugar en ambas sesiones y experimentó algunos problemas con el cambio de marchas.

Sin embargo, señaló que no todos los pilotos emplearon su máxima potencia en las prácticas, sugiriendo que la tabla de tiempos puede no ser completamente representativa.

«Creo que estamos todos cerca. Probablemente alguien más ya esté utilizando mapas más potentes en términos de velocidad punta, pero nosotros nos hemos centrado en nosotros mismos».

«Hoy nos hemos encontrado con algunos problemas de equilibrio, pero nada especialmente importante. La puesta a punto del RB20

Verstappen enfatizó que Red Bull está enfocado en encontrar la ventana de trabajo óptima para el RB20 en este circuito. Aunque reconoce la importancia de la clasificación, la prioridad del equipo es destacar en la carrera del sábado, cuando se otorgan los primeros puntos del campeonato.

«No todos han puesto el mapa de la unidad de potencia al máximo, pero algunos ciertamente sí lo hacen. No me preocupa la ‘brecha’ con el primer lugar, pero todos estaremos cerca en la clasificación… será divertido. Me sentí un poco más cómodo con el coche, pero al final del día también quieres centrarte en las tandas largas, donde el monoplaza tiene que funcionar bien. Claramente la clasificación es importante, pero tenemos que asegurarnos de que el coche está en una buena ventana para la carrera«, finalizó el tricampeón.
